Beauty Queen - CLEOPATRA

Cleopatra was the last queen of Egypt. Such was herbeauty that she held the affection of not one but two political players on the world stage, Julius Caesar and Marc Antony. Even though she was queen, she was a woman who wanted to be beautiful. Like the women of her day and ours, Cleopatra used the latest beauty treatments and makeup. History has judged her a success as she has become known as one of the most beautiful women of all time.

    Milk Baths

  1. History has recorded some of the beauty treatment used by the mysterious Cleopatra and the women of her time. One beauty treatment she was well known for was her milk bath. This was a practice neighboring Roman women found shocking. Truthfully, milk was just one ingredient of this luxurious bath. A pool or tub was filled with warm fresh water and warm milk was added to the pool. Aromatic flowers and whatever oils she preferred that day were added to the bath. The actual recipe for the milk bath has been lost, but it has been suggested the milk she used was donkeys' milk. Milk is loaded with vitamins A and E which are wonderful for the complexion, especially the facial skin. Some of the enzymes in milk may help your skin regenerate fresh skin cells.
  2. Eye Makeup

  3. Egyptians believed that the beautiful were blessed by their gods. It was important for those that could afford it to be beautiful. Eye shadows of the day came from a variety of sources. Minerals were ground with burnt almonds to create brown eye shadows. Green copper ore was beaten and sifted for green colors. The fragrant spice saffron doubled as a yellow eye color. Cleopatra's eye shadow was applied over the entire eye lid from eyebrow to lid rim. Eyeliner made from lead-based kohl was applied with warm enamel sticks. The kohl liner was used to line the entire circumference of the eye. This too gave the wearer some protection from the brutal glare of the Egyptian sun.
  4. Face Makeup

  5. Cleopatra would have used a foundation makeup with a wax base. This base was formed from animal fats and a white lead called ceruse. She would have applied this foundation to her face and neck, giving her the look of a majestic statue. More whitening was applied to her face with a cloth pad dabbed in some ground white chalk. Cheeks were blushed with a red powder which could have come from many sources, such as crushed beetles and a local red clay. Lips were stained red with a mixture of red clay, a sticky wine residue and some smashed berries.

Gray Hair

Causes of Gray Hair

Gray hair is supposedly a sign of wisdom. Well, Gray hair is caused when the follicle is unable to add color to the hair or when there is lack of melanin in the body. Melanin is responsible in giving color to the hair and due to the lack of which the hair starts to grey. Grey hair in old days was the sign of reaching mid life or starting with old age. But in today’s life even very young people get gray hair.
There are a lot of reasons for having grey hair. One reason could be stress and tension. Lot of stress and tension leads to early graying of hair. Another reason could be age. If a person is around 40 it is natural for him to start graying. It is not that every person who reaches 40 or 40+ has grey hair but generally this is the scenario every where. As you age your body capacity to produce melanin decreases and you tend to grey fast. Smoking can also be one of the reasons for gray hair at an early age. Smoking is generally said to be injurious to health so it has to be injurious to your hair too. Certain Illness can also lead to graying or premature ageing of hair. Some drugs can also lead to change of color of hair early.
Try these........

  1. Make a paste of gooseberries and mango seeds. Apply this onto the hair and scalp and leave on for some time before washing off. When done at regular intervals, this is a good grey hair treatment.
  2. Boil tea leaves in water. Strain and let it cool down. Mix two teaspoonfuls of salt into it and apply to hair and scalp. Wash after an hour with plain water. This process when done once in 10 days can prevent gray hair.
  3. Make a paste of henna in an iron vessel and leave overnight. Also add some walnut pulp in the morning. Apply this on the hair and make a neat bun. Leave for 1 – 2 hours or till it dries. Gently and carefully wash off. Apart from preventing early greying, it also adds a beautiful red tinge to the hair. It is completely natural and harmless. It also conditions hair.
Natural Treatment For Gray Hair

  • Premature graying of hair is an indication of Vitamins deficiency and lack of nourishment.  Consume a diet rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins.
  • Vitamin A is essential for a healthy scalp to protect the natural body and shine of your hair. Increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and carrots in your diet. Eat fruits & vegetables that are orange and yellow in color.
  • Vitamin B helps in the upkeep of hair and is a natural moisturizer. It also serves in regulating the oil secretions in the hair follicles. Vitamin B is found in tomatoes, cereals, cauliflower, bananas and yogurt.

  • Massage 1 tablespoon of gooseberry juice on the scalp. Repeat this procedure twice in a week.

Hair Loss

Hair Loss  is a distressing problem for many men and women. While not every case of hair loss can be prevented, it is possible for some people to prevent losing their hair. Here are five ways you can potentially avoid the upsetting issue of hair loss:
1 Know Your Family History
It’s important to understand your family history regarding hair loss. Many cases of hair loss are genetic, which means there is little you can do to stop your hair from falling out. What you can do is be on the lookout for the first signs, and head to your dermatologist for treatment options as soon as possible. The sooner you begin treatment, the better. You might not be able to reverse your genetics, but you can reduce the severity of your hair loss by giving the problem prompt attention.
2 Avoid Stress
Stress is a leading factor for non-genetic hair loss in both men and women. When people are under severe physical or emotional stress, they often experience hair loss. Therefore, make an effort to reduce stress in your life. This might be by meditating, exercising, or simply cutting back on your work schedule and taking more time for yourself.
3 Eat a Healthy Diet
Diet can play an important role in hair health. If your body is deficient in certain vitamins or minerals, it can lead to hair loss. This is why many anorexics experience hair loss in patchy clumps. You don’t have to be anorexic to be deficient in vitamins, however. Even healthy eaters may not get the right amount of nutrients. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a daily multivitamin to make up for any diet deficiencies.
4 Avoid Harsh Chemicals
It’s a common practice for women (and even some men) to color their hair and use harsh treatments like permanent waves and relaxers. Many types of haircolor, perms and relaxers are made with harsh chemicals which can damage the hair and lead to breakage and loss. If enough hair breaks off close to the root, it can lead to serious thinning and balding. So to avoid this type of hair loss, limit your use of these products or avoid them altogether. If your hair is already damaged, hot oil treatments and deep conditioners can help.
5 Keep Your Hormones Balanced
Women are especially susceptible to hormonal hair loss. The best example of this type of hair loss is that which occurs following pregnancy. Menopause and perimenopause may also lead to hair loss in some women. Make sure you are getting annual checkups and having your thyroid checked at each visit. Keeping your hormones in proper balance, at least for women, can help prevent unnecessary hair loss.

To do this, you can lightly roast and grind a few almonds. Add less than half a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to the crushed nuts and mix it thoroughly so that you have a slightly coarse but thick mixture.
